Backlighting Challenge at Rock The Shot

This is such a sweet family that I had the privileged to do a photo shoot all in their own backyard. The truck to the left is the grandfather of these girls you see in this picture. We had fun taking pictures with that as well.
I had been learning how to use to sun to my advantage and not be scared of it anymore. I wanted to do a walking away shot with them and when they starting walking I notice the backlighting on them and waited to it was the right time.
I was happy how it came out, and so were they. The mom has a big print of this in her home.

I was scouting new locations for new photo shoots and decided to test out this location with a impromptu candid photo shoot. I have known Tiffany for a little while now and her son as well. Korbyn is such a cool kid and so smart. Tiffany is a wonderful nurse at our local hospital and a strong advocate for children with autism or any special needs. She has helped me so much with getting the help I need for my son with special needs. We had fun exploring the Hackfeld farm on this shoot. We hope to do some more later with even more fun props.

I have known Brittany for awhile now. She is my neighbor. Our families are good friends. Brittany loves the theater and is a talented singer and actress. She even tried out for American Idol a few times. They don't know what they are missing. She will be a Snyder Varsity Cheerleader for the first time this year. We sure had fun doing this photo shoot. Larissa was our awesome assistant.

Right after I got home from the previous photo shoot that I just finished I was so inspired and excited about a new place to shoot. I loaded the boys up in the car with my hubby and we went to do some updated ones of Jared and AJ. I was so glad I took the time to do them, they were perfect for our Christmas cards and new pictures for our home. It was interesting getting them, but as always I just went with the flow and was as creative as I could when taking the pictures. You have to with kids when they are on the go. I loved how they turned out. What do you think?

The Kerr family was in town for the holidays and had been wanting to do some family portraits. They had never done any just the 3 of them and I was honored to be able to get to do them. I did Hudson baby portraits last year and he has grown so much. They introduced me to a new place in Snyder that I hadn't heard off before. It had old bridges that I just loved. I took my sons there right after I got home from this one and did a photo shoot them as well.
Hudson had grown so much and had lots of energy. Thanks Kevin and Christi for giving me the honor of capturing your blessings.

Pioneer Woman has done quite a few photography assignments and her latest is themed Water. I love learning a lot from her photography tips and suggestions. Well this time I finally uploaded a few of mine for the assignment. You could only upload one a day for a few days. I was so excited to see mine was selected as one of the Group #5. Total their were over 100,00 entries for this assignment. I was one 20 in group 5 to start with. Well today she picked the finalist out of the 6 groups totally 120. My photograph was selected as one of the finalists. Wahoo, it encouraged me to do more of my photography again and continue to learn more of my craft.

This was the photo before I did any editing. I did very little editing to it. I just overlaid a cross hatch color to it.

I had the privileged to do my first newborn session still in the hospital. She was only 2 days old and let me tell you she was precious! I got to hold her and help her mom dressed her. Only in God's right time and plan we will have a baby girl one day of our own.

I was so blessed to spend the afternoon with such a loving and fun family. The mother of this beautiful family is Xandy. Her and I met at my son's school through the PTO. She has just brought so much joy to my heart for her love of the precious kids at our elementary and such a good momma to her 3 beautiful dolls. There land held many memories to this family. Mr. Ballard's grandpa built this house and did many things on the land. The truck belongs in the family as well. Mr. Ballard remembers riding in it as a kid and I heard stories about his grandpa in it driving down the dirt roads.Thanks to the Ballard family for letting me tell your story through pictures.

I decided to take a day to have fun and get some updated shots of AJ. He is 30 mths old right now and is a little riot. He loved his cho-cho trains, Bob the builder, Cars,Diego, and Jesus. He isn't talking a whole lot but loves to be tickled and play airplane with his mommy and jump up and down on daddy like he is a jungle gym. His favorite song is Every Move I Make.. and likes doing Wahoo part. This are a few I was able to capture after bribing him with apples.

I had just started to drive home for my mom's house. We had feared that her cancer had spread to her organs from her bones after 2 years of having it. She was showing the symptoms and we gave it all to God and left it there. Well on the way home it finally hit me and I started to weep, like the ugly cry. I try not to cry in front of my sons because they start to worry about their momma. Well and I was the one driving. So in that moment I asked God to bring me some comfort and to rely on his strength and not my own. A few seconds later I passed a beautiful field of sunflowers. I knew I had to turn around and take a few. Thank you Jesus for the comfort you brought to me through your beauty of nature. Soon after I took these photos we found out that my mom's cancer HAD NOT spread but she having some blood transfusions down to help with her anemia. She celebrated last night by going to water aerobics and ending up teaching the class. You go momma!

What a fun time we had! These girls were born to be models for sure. I rarely helped them pose. I have know Alyssa (with the blue eyes) for about 4 years now. Her mom and I are great friends. I had done an impromptu shoot of her family a few months ago. I was in town visiting my parents and we decided to get some shoots after church this past Sunday. She is of legal age to drive now and her mom and step dad blessed her with a mustang. Please be careful Alyssa!!! One of her many best friends is Krystal. She was so much fun as well. They are all so naturally good at taking great photos.

Carl and Debbie are the sweetest couple from my church. Carl has lived here in Leadville for most of his life but they are both from the east coast. We all prayed for a wonderful wife for him and God answered our prayers. Debbie moved here to be with him. They are getting married this weekend. I always love shoots that I just keep laughing and have so much fun. I feel if that are not having fun then I am not doing my job.

I took this picture on a whim on the way home from the woman's retreat that I went on.
I had just picked out some lovely vegetables and fruits from the Farmers market. It was right along side their small parking lot. Who would of known that something I saw could turn into something so beautiful when it was framed like that with the tree branches.

I have been learning more and more about my camera everyday.. I learned this term on a photography site. I didn't even know it had a term. I was so excited about this picture because I have been experimenting with using my camera in manual focus lately and this one was exciting because I was able to blur the leaves in front but still have the leaves in the background clear.

Spring Portraits without snow

I have been wanting to do updated shots of my son's since they both just turned 3 and 1 yrs old. I was at my mom's this past weekend in Texas and I tried to take advantage of the beautiful weather with no snow on the ground like we still have here. Keep in mind my children were not really feeling the whole picture thing especially since I was the photographer..and had to do the mom thing and the photographer thing. I just know that I am blessed to be their mom whether they will smile at the camera or not.

Cadet Bryant- Giant Bicycles

Cadet Bryant was my second client. He is a cyclist for Giant Bicycles. He placed 11th overall in the U.S. in the Ultra Endurance Mountain Bike Series-Pro Elite Division. He has ridden with Tinker Juarez who finished 12Th. He also had the privilege of riding with Floyd Landis. Floyd competed in the 2006 Tour de France on Lance Armstrong's team.
Cadet was such a joy to photograph. He needed some updated pictures for his sponsors. He is sponsored not only by Giant Bicycles, but St. Jude Hospital and a few others. He has such a calm demeanor and just blessed my day. I met him through Shawnte, she is his sister. I was nervous but confident because he was so easy to work with. I was proud of what together, we were able to produce. These are a few from his successful photo shoot.

The Clawsons are such a sweet family. Mrs. Shawnte Clawson is the mom of this fabulous 5. She is my director of Mary Kay. We haven't known each other that long, and already she is one my most dearest friends that God has blessed me with. This is the first official family picture ever taken off them. I have always had a passion for photography. I wanted to capture the special moments in life, to be able to savor that moment with a picture. Just recently I have been doing more training in photography. Their is endless things to learn, trust me. My husband blessed me with a new camera this year. The model is Canon Rebel XIT, 10.1 mega pixels. I am continuing to learn everyday what this camera is capable of. I am planning on taking more classes to have more in depth training as well.
God has blessed me with so many things to capture in my life. I am continued to be thankful for all the blessing God has bestowed on my family and I.
I was thinking about a name for my photography business, and the word Blessings came to mind. I continued to think about it and pray as well. I came up with Capturing Gods Blessings.
